We all have loved pain at some point in our lives whether it be physical or emotional. Embracing pain can only alleviate it; it can be freedom in an ironic sense. On the other hand, it can also only worsen the ache; destroy dreams and lives and perhaps push you away from sanity. We all have that description of pain. In one way or another, we have all experienced it and have our own perception about it. It doesn’t have to be the same in all circumstances though. One can view it positively or negatively. It mainly depends on how one copes. We all have different ways to handle pain, whether it be from a family crisis or a heartache.
Yes, I’ll be talking about Miley. I know so much has been said about how she has changed in comparison to the Hannah Montana that she was back then. Personally, I believed she was different from the others who gave in to fame, money, drugs, boys, and all the bad things. Well, as always, life takes us by surprise. It made me realize how much pain can change you from one form to another. And in Miley’s case, it’s a change to the extremes.
It’s true what they say that love can either make or break you. Sometimes, the person you love the most, the one who draws out the best in you will also be the one to destroy you and make you the worst person you can be. But you see, I understand where she’s coming from.
I don’t know if this is legit or not but I have seen a report with a verbatim from her saying that the song is about being vulnerable. In a way, I understand her. Being hurt by the person you gave your all to is pretty painful. I don’t know if you can relate but the pain cuts through your core. The nightmares and the unbearable pangs of reality are so harsh that it will make you float in the air. Your knees become weak to the point that you think you wouldn’t be able to stand without holding on to something. Okay, maybe I’m exaggerating.
It’s depressing how you can still want a person despite the fact that he has wrecked you. It’s something that you can’t just get over with in a matter of days. I’ve always believed; though, that the bad memories won’t hurt you, it’s actually the good ones that will. But, there’s no other way than to embrace the pain. The only way to get over it is to feel it, wholeheartedly. You’ve got to lick your own wounds. It will suck but that’s the way.
Disclaimer: I am not defending Miley. I think she can think of better ways to describe her pain other than licking a sledge hammer or showing the world her nakedness but it’s her individuality. I still appreciate the song and how it relates to her present “crisis”.
